A Message from the Principal
Summer is a wonderful time for children. When school is dismissed each year, children prepare for a summer of baseball, swimming and skateboarding. It is a time of freedom, exploration and learning. Summer can also be a time for children to enjoy reading.
Just like swimming and throwing a baseball, reading is a skill that improves with practice. Summer reading can help children develop their skills so that they are ready when school bells ring again in September.
Let us encourage reading! It is important to remember that summer reading should be self-selected. Children should be able to choose books and magazines they find
appealing. You can encourage your child to read in many ways:
" Read to your child as much as possible. " Be a reader yourself. Children follow the example of their parents. " Make regular visits to the Hillside Public Library. " Stop by a book store. " Bring books on car trips and vacations.
Enjoy each day with your children.
